Project GRAD and GEAR UP

What did you do on your summer vacation?

150 high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from Lorain spent part of their summer break taking part in Project GRAD and GEAR UP on the campus of Lorain County Community College.

Project GRAD involved juniors and seniors from Southview High School. The students spent four weeks and four hours a day in a program focused on math and language arts development along with Career Exploration.

Lorain’s GEAR UP involved sophomores at Southview and Admiral King. The focus of GEAR UP was math, language arts and enrichment courses.

Project GRAD also offered a Summer Institute for rising seniors. "Atmosphere Adventure Camp" was the main attraction. The students spent time in the LCCC Television Studio learning about broadcasting weather reports from meteorologist Jon Loufman, Dick Goddard and others. They also learned about television production from LCCC Digital Media staffer Rey Torres.

Overall, 21 different faculty members and 11 mentors guided the students through a summer filled with advanced learning.
